Flying ants appear on unspecified and unpredictable days. During the summer, people became known as Flying Ants Day. On different days of the year, you can see millions of ants coming out of their nest during the colder weather. Unfortunately, if you eat outside or try to stay with the windows open, you’ll find floating pests ruining your days.
Adam Joson, founder and CEO of Merlin Environmental, exclusively told Express.co.uk that this “day” is not an event that can take place on a “warm and calm day”. He explained:
“For the flying ants to appear, the temperature must be above 13 degrees Celsius and the wind speed must be below 6.3 meters per second. “In the UK, these events take place most often in July and August, when temperatures exceed 25 ° C.”
Flying ants are not considered dangerous, but they can be very annoying when caught in a flock.
But like other British ants, it can be a big headache if it invades your home. Adam stressed that homeowners should first try to prevent them from entering their home.
“Keeping the windows closed or using repellants reduces the chances of flying ants entering the house,” he said. It’s just annoying to keep yourself out of your garden for a few days a year
But if this becomes a major inconvenience, there are steps you can take to eliminate the problem.
According to experts, the first step is to find a nest, which is usually “very easy”. Follow the ant where it appeared.
To get rid of the nest, Adam says, “In most cases, it’s about destroying the nest unless the ants are nesting in a movable container, such as a pot with a plant. “There are several methods that can be used for this, such as pouring boiling water into the nest or spraying soapy water into the nest.”
Flying ants can’t stand dish soap because it sticks to the body and dries it.
Experts added: “As a more familiar approach, try placing a large flower pot over the nest. In a few weeks, the ants move the nest to the plant pot. This way you can move around safely. †
To repel ants flying out of homes and gardens, pest control experts say the British can install “door-to-door traps and windows”.
One of the most effective hacks is to use apple juice and artificial sweeteners. “A bowl of artificial sweetener mixed with apple juice kills the ants when they return to their nest,” Adam said.
Mixing artificial sweeteners with apple juice creates a sticky paste that is poisonous to ants.
Tempting them with a mixture brings them back to the colony, other ants eat it and kill part of the population, and flying ants don’t like the smell of some herbs and spices, it’s a great deterrent. “They don’t like the aromas of herbs and spices like cinnamon, mint, cayenne, black pepper, cayenne, cloves and garlic,” said a pest control expert.
Homeowners can mix these spices and herbs with water to make a solution and spray it around the entrance to the house.
Also, when the spray hits the bugs, it dries and kills them. In addition to blocking them, it is important not to attract them.
